Theme

C.H.O.L.A is a group exhibition which explores cultural identity, the influence of Cholo/Chola culture, and the history and lifestyle of east LA-Mexican ‘Brown Pride’ communities through a South Pacific lens.

An acronym for the artists involved: Ceeroc (Cerisse Palalagi), Hoodsavvy (Wairoa Palalagi), and Onesian (Allen Vili), C.H.O.L.A is a reflection of their influences, stories and sociocultural experiences whilst growing up in Los Aukilani.

The works are diverse and include silk-screen and woodcut prints, photography and video.
It is an exhibition which considers discussion on the impact and interconnectedness of American youth-gang culture, language and visual imagery, hip hop music, fashion and aesthetic with contemporary Polynesian identities and working class realities.
